TOSSIN’ AXES SOLD TO LOCAL OAK HARBOR MAN
Daniel Cadwell, employee, now owner, has plans for more fun than ever at Tossin’ Axes.
September 1. 2024, Oak Harbor, WA on Whidbey Island-
Tossin’ Axes, the axe throwing, arcade, and pinball entertainment center in the beautiful Log Cabin building in Oak Harbor, has transferred ownership. James and Priscilla Croft, longtime owners of the the Roller Barn and Toppins Frozen Yogurt, recently sold Tossin’ Axes to their employee, Daniel Cadwell. Daniel already has plans for additional activities, promotions, and events including leagues and the opportunities for sponsorships.
“We are very happy and excited to announce that we have sold Tossin’ Axes to Daniel Cadwell and his mother, Donna DeBonis. Daniel has worked at Tossin’ Axes for the past year since we opened in Spring of 2023. Donna has taken over the marketing for the past two months on our social media, newsletter, and website. This has resulted in an increase in visibility of all the fun activities and events held at Tossin’ Axes.”
James noted that Daniel has been very committed to the business since he started working there over a year ago. Said James, “Daniel not only became an ‘axe-pert’ at throwing axes and knives, but has taught many customers how to do so safely and with accuracy” As for the repair of all the games, James said, “Daniel has spent countless hours cleaning, painting, and repairing the more than 35 pinball machines and arcade games onsite.” Daniel remarked that his goal is for customers to be able to come in and enjoy a fantastic variety of games to play, so that every visit offers a fun time for everyone. Likewise, he has increased the number of digital axe throwing games in the 6 lanes on the top floor. There are over 10 distinct fun digital axe throwing games, including one with digital moving targets. This makes the game highly interactive as well as competitive.
Donna DeBonis, co-owner, remarked that the Log Cabin building with its all wood log construction fits perfectly with the axe throwing theme. “Tossin’ Axes is in an exceptionally beautiful space that covers 3 stories and 6000 SF. We can fit a lot of fun and entertaining activities inside it. “ She went on to commend James Croft, “He did a remarkable job designing the interior. He built the 6 extremely safe axe throwing lanes on the top floor, which are set up for ten axe throwers per lane. This is a perfect competition area for our axe throwing leagues that will be launched this Fall. Top contenders will have the chance to win prizes, which will make for fun competitions.” She went on to say, “we sell snacks and all kinds of beverages from sodas to local craft beer and cider. Families enjoy coming in even with babies and toddlers, because of the more than 25 arcade games to play. We even have a kid sized pinball machine. The array of 13 pinball machines on the top floor feature the 2024 Limited Edition John Wick pinball machine. Between the lights, game sounds, and music, the place gets to hopping with an air of excitement, especially during the monthly Pinball Tourney. “
Donna also handles the new Private Event space downstairs, called the Delta Room. She explained, “This is the private area for parties, events, and club meetings. We offer low volume music, a vintage gamer area, buffet tables, chairs, big screen TV, and couch included with the hourly rental price. We also host other activities like Speed Dating, and a Science Fiction Author Convention this summer. After enjoying the Delta Room, people can head upstairs to play upstairs on the top two levels full of games, and continue to have fun as a group.”
For anyone who has not visited Tossin’ Axes yet, Daniel hopes they will be delighted to discover
how fun and challenging it is to throw axes and knives. Since so many new people have recently taken up axe throwing at Tossin’ Axe, he plans to start a Top Contender Axe Throwing Tournament for their axe throwing league. He will also be unveiling a special offering on Memberships. Going forward, the Roller Barn and Tossin’ Axes intend to set up membership reciprocity between them. The intent is that all of their Members will be able to enjoy certain benefits at both entertainment centers. As James said after signing the Business Purchase documents this weekend, “ We still want to be part of the fun at Tossin’ Axes, and we believe that Daniel and Donna will be the ones to maximize its potential as a first rate entertainment center on Whidbey Island.”
